Sunscreens help to filter out ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) may cause age spots, dark spots, wrinkles, sagging as well as cancer.  The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is a measure of how much radiation a sunscreen blocks. Broad spectrum sunscreens protect from both UVA and UVB. Sunscreen is the most important skin care product that should be used every day, even in winter to prevent signs of premature ageing.

Professional sunscreen products are not heavy, thick, or pore clogging.  These sophisticated sunscreens will benefit different skin types. To avoid sun damage, look for antioxidant ingredients like Vitamins E and C in the sunscreens.  For more sensitive skin, look for Titanium dioxide and Zinc oxide, because they do not penetrate the skin. They only accumulate on top of the skin and reflect or scatter UV waves, thus avoiding skin irritation. Otherwise, broad spectrum sunscreen can be used to absorb UV rays. Fragrance and perfume should also be avoided because they may cause photosensitivity, brown spots or age spots.

Sunscreen should be stored away from heat and direct sunlight (i.e., in a cool, dry place).  Expiration dates should be honored because the product’s integrity cannot be guaranteed, even if it may be effective for a few months after the date.

In short, wherever your plans take you, take your sunscreen along.  Don’t miss a day. Use it like medicine to avid age spots, wrinkles, sagging and cancer.  Your skin and health will thank you.
