Laser Spider Veins Treatment
The 1064nm Nd: YAG laser has proved to be one of the most useful light sources for the treatment of deep vascular lesions and spider veins. Deeper penetration and a lower absorption by haemoglobin make this wavelength highly effective for thick vascular lesions, more so traditionally used shorter wavelengths (KTP, pulsed dye, IPL, diode). Adequate absorption of this wavelength is achieved by haemoglobin, a system able to control the depth of penetration through appropriate spot selection. With variable pulse duration to adjust to different vessel diameters, high fluences, and optimal cooling systems to avoid pain or burning, Nd YAG lasers can theoretically treat any vascular lesion, superficial, deep or thick. Additionally, variable spot sizes, highly-variable pulse duration and high fluences (CoolGlide Vantage, Cutera) have been evaluated for the treatment of a wide spectrum of vascular lesions. Results are especially noticeable on rosacea, leg veins, facial spider veins, and cherry angiomas.
Haemoglobin absorption of the 1064nm Nd: YAG wavelength offers the possibility to treat deep or thick lesions that are not accessible with shorter wavelengths. The option to tailor the treatment for every client according to the characteristics of their lesions is responsible for the high success rates in our experience. A 1064nm Nd: YAG laser with an optimal equipment design, as the one used in our Clinic, permits us to treat any kind of facial spider veins, leg veins (varicose veins), venus lake, cherry angioma with high rates of success and safety.
What Are the Causes of Varicose Veins?
Leg veins have valves that act as one-way flaps. These valves prevent the blood from flowing backwards as it moves up the legs. If one-way valves become week, blood can leak back into the vein and collect there. Pooled blood enlarges the vein, becoming varicose. Prolonged standing or sitting, sun exposure, obesity, hormonal influences, age, and family history are the causes of spider veins and varicose veins.
There are two methods to treat varicose veins and spider veins:
- Laser 1064nm Nd YAG spider veins treatment is very effective and less painful
- Sclerotherapy is an injectable solution to treat blood vessel malformations using agents such as hypertonic saline, hypertonic glucose and polidocanol. This treatment makes vessels shrink.
Benefits of Nd Yag laser Treatments on vascular Lesions
❖ Nd:Yag laser minimizes any bruising or irritation of the surrounding skin.
❖ The number of treatments depends on the quantity, color and size of the vessels being treated, typically 1-3.
❖ Feels like a mild to moderate stinging sensation. A cooling mechanism is built into the handpiece to minimize discomfort and protect the skin.
❖ Small vessels disappear immediately. Large vessels on the legs, often look worse before they look better but will clear up over weeks or months. The use of sunscreen is recommended after treatment.
